How to connect a VPN on Windows with Happ

Happ on Windows: a CHEBA VPN profile is added and TUN mode is on for all traffic

Install Happ on Windows 10 or 11, add the link from your CHEBA VPN account, and turn on TUN mode so all of the computer’s traffic goes through the VPN.

On Windows you install Happ, paste the link from your CHEBA VPN account, and turn on TUN mode. Without TUN, not all traffic leaves through the VPN, and some programs stay on the ordinary network.

When you need this

A laptop works on different networks: at home, in the office, in a café, in a hotel. Work tools — mail, calls, Git, cloud services — should behave the same on each of them. A VPN on the computer encrypts traffic from every app at once and gives one stable exit onto the network, without setting up each program separately.

The client is Happ for Windows 10 or 11. CHEBA VPN’s protocol is VLESS, and it is already built into the subscription link from the account on chebavpn.com. The service lists its servers as Sweden. After sign-up there are 3 days of trial access.

A phone is set up differently. There is no TUN mode there. If you also need a smartphone: Happ VPN on Android. The iPhone steps are different too: Happ VPN on iPhone.

Install Happ

Download the Happ installer for Windows 10 or 11. On the service site that is the official setup-Happ.x64.exe file.

Run it and walk through the installer. Windows may ask whether to open the downloaded file. That is the system asking about a new installer. Confirm the launch.

When Happ opens, you do not sign in with a separate login inside the app. Access is the link from the account, not your email password.

Where to get the link on the computer

Open the account in a browser on the same PC and copy the “Connection link” block. The “Subscription link” QR is useful when the code is open on a phone: Happ on the computer can add a profile from the code as well. At a normal desk the link text is enough.

While you are checking access, do not turn the profile off in Happ. The connect button and TUN mode work as a pair. A profile without TUN does not capture every program. TUN without the profile turned on will not open the site by itself.

The installer from the site is for Windows 10 and 11, and the file is 64-bit. On an older system it may simply fail to start. That is not the link’s fault.

Add the subscription

  1. Open your CHEBA VPN account.
  2. Copy the “Connection link”, or show the “Subscription link” QR. On a computer it is easier to copy the text. A QR is useful if the code is already on the phone screen.
  3. In Happ, add the subscription with that link or code.
  4. Wait until the profile appears in the list.

You do not choose the protocol by hand. If you want to know why the link is VLESS, there is a separate note: what VLESS is.

Turn TUN on

For all of the computer’s traffic, turn on TUN mode. Then both the browser and the other programs go through the VPN. If TUN does not suit you, Happ’s settings can use the system proxy instead. The proxy only captures apps that know how to follow Windows system settings. A messenger or a game often stays outside it. For the ordinary job of “just make everything work”, leave TUN on.

Turn the profile on and open the IP check. The same page shows whether your real address leaks through WebRTC in the browser. Reload the page after the VPN is on. There is a separate short write-up for video: VPN for YouTube.

If it does not connect

The profile does not appear. The link was not copied to the end, or it has a space. In the account, tap the QR to take the whole text, and add the subscription again.

There is a connection, and the program you need is still on the ordinary network. TUN is almost always off. Turn it on and connect again. The system proxy does not replace TUN in this case.

TUN will not turn on, or the internet disappears entirely. Disconnect the profile and check that the computer has a network without the VPN. Then turn it on again. If an antivirus or the built-in firewall gets in the way, it may block the new network adapter. Allow Happ in the program list and try again.

The connection comes up and falls. Open the account and check the account status. After the 3 trial days the old link stays in Happ, but the server no longer serves it.

It opened in one browser and not in another. Close the second browser completely, do not just minimize a tab, and open it after TUN is on. Some browsers keep their own proxy. While it points at the old settings, a system-wide VPN has no effect on it.

Short version

The Happ installer, the link from the account, a profile in the app, and TUN mode. That is how Windows sends all traffic into the VPN, not just one browser. Leave the system proxy only if you are not using TUN for some reason.

Questions

Is TUN required?

For all traffic, yes. That is how the service guide puts it. If you only need a browser that already uses the system proxy, you can switch Happ’s settings to that. It is not enough for desktop programs.

Does Happ on Windows ask for a CHEBA VPN login?

No. The app receives the link or the QR from the account. The login and password are for the site, so you can open that link.

The same subscription as on the phone?

Yes. One link is added on Windows and in mobile Happ. How many devices are available at once is shown in the account.

What should I check if sites will not open even with TUN?

First, that access has not expired and the link is whole. Then restart the profile. Then a browser that was closed before the VPN was turned on. If the internet works without Happ and not with it, delete the profile and add the link again.
